Dart Harbour Sea School Ltd. is a RYA approved Powerboat Training School offering The National Powerboat Scheme, from a practical introduction for the novice through to advanced level qualifications.

Based in Dartmouth on the River Dart, arguably one of the most beautiful locations on the South Coast . We offer all year round training, the challenge of close quarter manoeuvres in a busy commercial port and the thrill of the open sea and its stunning Coast Line.

We offer all RYA courses in our 6.5m Zodiac rib powered by a 90hp Evenrude engine capable of speeds in excess of 20 knots, and are fully equipped with all safety and navigation equipment. Our friendly and professional staff aim to make your course instructive and fun.

Level 1:

Introduction to Powerboating
This is essentially an introduction to Powerboating, a one-day course that covers basic boat handling, safety and rules of the road. The overall aim is to inspire the novice, build confifidence whilst discovering the joys of a new activity. Cost £150.

Level 2 :

National Powerboat Course
A comprehensive two-day course, predominantly practical the course provides the skills and background knowledge needed to be a competent powerboat driver and is the basis of the International Certificate of Confidence. Cost £235.

Including:

• Effects of current or tide
• High and low speed manoeuvring
• Securing to a buoy
• Man overboard
• Safety equipment

Powerboat Level 2

Intermediate:

Powerboat Day Cruising Course
A two-day course incorporating the practical use of pilotage and passage planning by day on coastal waters, using traditional and electronic navigational techniques. Cost £250.

Including:

• Pilotage and Navigation
• Effects of waves and rougher conditions
• Power trim and trim tabs
• Use of GPS in high speed navigation

It is strongly recommended that candidates hold a VHF operator's certificate and a First Aid certificate.

Intermediate Course

Advanced:

Powerboat Day and Night Course
A two-day course incorporating a night passage providing the skills and background knowledge needed by powerboat drivers operating by day or night in known or unfamiliar waters, the skipper's role and boat handling in more demanding conditions. Cost £300.

• Passage planning
• High speed boat handling
• Advanced manoeuvres
• Chart plotters and radar
• Emergency situations

Candidates must hold a First Aid certificate and a VHF certificate. Dart Harbour Sea School can arrange these courses for you.

Safety Boat Courses
Dart Harbour Sea School can also provide the two-day Safety Boat Course upon request. A prerequisite is RYA level 2 and First Aid. We are also able to offer a range of RYA theory courses please contact the office for further details. Cost £300.

½ Day Taster Sessions
These are ideal trips for those who would like an introduction to powerboating; enjoy the stunning scenery of the River Dart and the thrill of experiencing high speeds on the open sea. Our fully qualified staff will give you the ride of a lifetime and show you the joys of power.

Skippered Charter
A brilliant way for you and your family or friends to explore the River Dart or the spectacular coastline, discover hidden beaches catch a glimpse of the local wildlife including dolphins and seals. Sit back and relax or take the wheel - the choice is yours and under the guidance of our fully qualified staff you will have a day to remember.

Corporate Entertaining
A great day and an excellent team building exercise. Our RYA Instructors will design a bespoke package for your company.

ICC
If you are an experienced boat handler you can take your ICC as a one-day practical and theory assessment course. The ICC is a basic Boat-Handling ticket that is required in European Coastal Waters. For the less experienced we would recommend doing your 2 day Powerboat Level 2 course, successful completion of this gives you your ICC certifcate.

Own Boat Tuition
Available all year round, why not maximise your potential, and learn how to get the most out of your own boat. £200 per day to have our Instrcutor on your boat, he can teach up to a maximum of 3 students.
